- Ellar began his acting career as a child artist in 2001 with “Boyhood” which was directed by Richard Linklater. Coltrane played the lead in the movie. Ellar and other movie cast were intermittently filmed for fewer days between the time of May 2002 and August 2013, by the time he turned 19 years old, there were roughly 45-50 days of filming altogether.
